Passover 5785
. חָמָס (Hamas)- Hebrew word meaning violent, cruel, unjust
. חָמֵץ (Chametz)- what we are called to remove on Pesach…the word means sour, bitter. The word refers to taste. Change the vowel and it is the word for vinegar. The word in Hebrew also refers to “cruel, ruthless, oppressive”
The actual word for LEAVEN is . שְׂאֹר which is an ACTION word meaning to “swell up”….sometimes with reference to pride or mans evil inclinations
What are we called upon to remove every year before Pesach?
The real chametz is in our hearts not our homes….we are called to remove sourness, bitterness, and pride. How do we do this?
Shma (hearing) and praying…
Psalm 49 :
“I will solve my riddle to the music of the lyre.
those who trust in their wealth
and boast of the abundance of their riches?
Truly no man can ransom another,
or give to God the price of his life,
For when he dies he will carry nothing away;
his glory will not go down after him.
For though, while he lives, he counts himself blessed
—and though you get praise when you do well for yourself—
his soul will go to the generation of his fathers,
who will never again see light.
Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish.”
The riddles and mysteries of life are in Torah…
Chametz removed needs to be replaced with hope and the Spirit of G-d
Read the entire Psalm !! “No man can ransom another”…only
G-d ….Zechariah 2.10-13
May Israel remove its . חָמָס. This year!
